Cortona on the Move

Travel Photography

About This Project

Cortona On The Move, the international festival of photography, is celebrating its first five years, having firmly established itself as an unmissable event for photographers, journalists and lovers of photography from around the world. This important recognition reflects the quality of the event and its selected content, which is further enriched by the magic of the event’s unique exhibition locations.

At the heart of the festival is the idea of ‘the journey’ as a real or ideal path, as a disruptive or revolutionary force and as metaphor for self-discovery and the discovery of others. Cortona is an ancient Tuscan village and the beauty of its historic locations provides the backdrop for dozens of exhibitions of some of the most important Italian and foreign photographers, not to mention workshops conducted by professional contemporary photographers. The number and quality of works has increased year after year along with the number of visitors.

The collaboration between Cortona On The Move and Paratissima is now in its second consecutive year. The two events deal with the contemporary and create spaces for dynamic, innovative and relevant languages.
The demand for this union is helping to broaden their respective activities by fostering not only a geographical connection, but one of shared purposes and communication. The ultimate goal is to create a new common place where one can recount their experiences of cultural exchange.

The works on display from Cortona On The Move include:
A project by the South Korean photographer Daesung Lee called “Futuristic Archaeology“, which reflects on climate change – specifically the threat of desertification in Mongolia.
Danesland” by Giulia Mangione explores the concepts of nationality and cultural identity in the context of both the suburbs and rural areas of Scandinavia.
Finally, “Working Holiday Visa: Australia” by Gabriele Duchi documents his discovery of the vastness of a distant land and his own personal journey of rediscovery.
